A good 18th Century English Georgian library or Gainsborough chair of generous proportions now available having come from long term private ownership.
The square shaped back flanked by upholstered arms with concave shaped mahogany arm supports.
The seat raised on square moulded legs united by 'H' shape stretchers and terminating in their original barrel castors.
The seat and back rest covered in a later 19th Century needlepoint fabric following a French pattern Circa 1860.
Whilst there is some slight movement in the arms, the chair is generally in a good solid condition and very usable.
The fabric is heavily worn particularly the velvet which edges the needlepoint fabric to the central area of the back rest and seat. The velvet has lost its pile and the needle point fabric has worn through at the front edge of the seat.
However, over 230 years of use has created a time worn look that is utterly charming and virtually impossible to replicate.
A highly original country house chair that really does have the look!
English George III Circa 1790
H: 96cm (seat height 45cm)
W: 69cm (59.5cm between arm supports)
D: 70cm (seat depth 52cm)
