A superbly detailed plaster bust of a bearded gentleman by the French sculptor Julien Lorieux (1876-1915).
The bust is inscribed with what appears to be the subjects name in gratitude 'reconnaissance' by your pupil 'ton élève' and inscribed Julien Lorieux 1908.
Lorieux trained at the Paris school of fine arts and went on to exhibit regularly at the Salon of French artists winning a number of awards
Lorieux died in the service of France in 1915. His work can be seen in various collections and municipal settings such as the marble group La Sainte Catherine acquired by the city of Paris in 1913 and erected in the Montholon square in Paris.
