A highly decorative Chinese Ming style quanyi armchair from the early 20th Century.
The chair features a continuous crest rail and wide shaped back splat. Finished in black lacquer with hand painted decoration all over including a dragon to the back splat, and phoenix to the seat.
In ancient China, quanyi armchairs with their iconic horseshoe shaped backs, were used for either the master of the house or important guests who were close to the family.
This particular example is in excellent condition with only very minor losses to the lacquer work.
