This fine example of social satire by James Gillray was published 10th June 1805 by H. Humphrey, 27 St. James Street, London and pictures a very well dressed couple riding in a carriage.
In stark contrast, the slender 'Cockney' is somewhat obscured by his corpulent wife. And an emaciated horse pulling the carriage follows a very well fed dog carrying an oversized bone.
This hand coloured etching is in excellent condition and retains good colour. Presented in a later, ebonised and parcel gilt frame.
H: 27cm etching where visible (frame height 43cm)
W: 38cm etching where visible (frame height 54cm)
D: 1.5cm (depth of frame)
Ref: DB716
