A real survivor from 1882, this original etching by William Strang RA (1859-1921) is signed in the plate.
Strang was a Scottish painter and print maker notable for illustrating the works of Byron, Colridge, and Kipling.
Strang moved to London when he was sixteen, spending six years at the Slade School studying art under Alphonse Legros. He had great success as an etcher and became assistant master in the etching class. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Society of Painters Etchers and his work was part of its first exhibition in 1881.
The etching is in excellent condition and has been mounted in a new bespoke made gesso, painted and parcel gilt frame.
