Norman Lloyd was born in Hamilton New South Wales, Australia.
In 1916 he enlisted with the Australian Imperial Forces on his 21st birthday. He was seriously wounded in battle a year later and returned to Australia in 1918.
He studied at the Sydney School of Art and in Europe including periods of time in France and Italy before settling in London in 1930.
He became a prominent member of the London art scene and was elected to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
This particular impressionist street scene (possibly Bruges?) demonstrates the artists exceptionally good use of light and colour.
The painting is signed bottom right and mounted in a gilt frame.
H: 79cm (height of frame)
W: 92cm (width of frame)
D: 5.5cm (depth of frame)
