A really fabulous composition depicting a boxing match at the Fives-Court, a sporting venue formally located in St. Martin's Street, London.

The venue operated as a boxing venue from 1802 until it closed in 1826 and was demolished as part of the redevelopment of the Royal Mews area into what is now Trafalgar Square.

The venues name related to 'fives' a ball game played using a gloved or bare hand (rather than a racket) against the walls of the 'court'. 

This hand coloured lithograph titled 'A "Set-to at the Fives-Court for the benefit of "One of the fancy" was published October 13th1823 by Thomas Kelly of 17 Paternoster Row, London.

The lithograph was produced from an engraving by Sutherland, the original drawing by S Alken. 

In good condition and nicely framed in a simple ebonised frame.
