A very fine and rare 19th Century cabinet on stand decorated in the Japanese taste.
The cabinet is constructed from hard wood timbers with papier mache panels. Both the cabinet and the stand are finished in black lacquer inset with mother of pearl decoration and very high quality gilt metal fittings.
The cabinet doors open to reveal five graduated drawers all below a shaped cornice.
The mother of pearl decoration continues on the inside of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The cabinet is edged with mouldings that have gold flakes within the black lacquer work finish. These are fitted to both the internal and external edges, further adding to the decorative appeal of this rather splendid piece of furniture.
In excellent condition having undergone some sensitive restoration.
In the manner of Jennens & Bettridge.
