A stunning early mono-chrome painting in the manner of Francesco Vanni (1563-1610).

Believed to depict the vision of Francesco Di Paola, the painting portrays a figure dressed in a religious habit, arms out stretched, palms facing upwards in reverence to the heavenly host before him. An angel holding a candle; the extraordinarily bright light reflecting on their faces and the faces of a group of putti above him.

This early work, typical of the Italian Baroque or counter-reformation period (late C16th to early C18th) and of the Sienese School, is possibly a preparatory work for a much larger 'grand painting'.

An incredibly atmospheric scene. The painting in good condition, having been re-lined with some re-touching from conservation work carried out in Italy. Now presented in a new bespoke parcel gilt frame.
