A very nice folk art wash painting of a yearling ram within a rural landscape inscribed with the name Mr. Thorpe 1 Year bottom right.
In the fore-ground a ram, Mr. Thorpe, stood side on in a field. Beyond, in the mid-ground, a stile on the field boundary and another sheep facing away from the viewer, reaching up to foliage on the other side of the field boundary. In the distance a belt of trees.
The painting dates back to the 18th or early 19th Century and has a somewhat naive quality.
In very good condition, framed in a faux bois frame with gilt slip.

W: 12.5cm where visible (frame height 19.5cm)
