C19th Iron clad GWR bullion box with original wax seals

A fascinating and completely untouched C19th Iron clad bullion box with the banks name plate and original wax security seals.

The box is constructed from six planks of timber with dovetail joints reinforced with iron straps terminating in heavy duty hasp and staples enabling the box to be locked using two padlocks. 

In addition to proof of payment labels, there are numerous original wax seals on the lid and front of the box with some remnants of string. These would have originally been used as tamper seals to prove the box had not been opened during transit. 

The majority of the seals are stamped National Provincial Bank Newquay although there is at least one seal relating to the bank at St Columb.

The box would have been used to transport bullion by rail provided locally by the Great Wester Railway (GWR).
