A large 19th Century Welsh oak cricket table of excellent proportions and with good provenance.
Until now, the table has remained in the same family, handed down from its originally owner Mary Williams, landlady of the Bear Inn, Rhayader, Wales. Mary Williams managed the pub during the last quarter of the 19th Century. She did so single handedly after her husband died of botulism having eaten from a tin of infected salmon. Not only did Mary Williams continue to run the Bear Inn, she did so whilst raising a large family having given birth to twelve children.
The cricket table is in excellent solid condition, the top having been refinished in more recent times. It would make a very useful dinning table for a small property sitting three people very comfortably.
Welsh, late C19th
H: 71 cm
C: 83 cm (top circumference)
