A well executed oil painting on board.
Waves starting to break as they reach the beach, a high rocky outcrop in the mid ground and water running back across the sand in the foreground.
The backwash and breaking waves catching the sunlight in stark contrast to the cloudy sky beyond. The distant coastline visible where the rocky outcrop drops away towards the sea.
A wonderfully atmospheric painting that enables the viewer to feel the power of the waves, the movement of the backwash drawing you further into the painting.
The painting is signed to the lower right with the artist name and address verso.
The originally Art Deco frame has now been replaced with a bespoke frame carefully handmade by a master frame maker and gilder, the frame finished using a gesso, paint and gilding process. Whilst using similar colours, we feel this new frame works far better with the original painting.
English Circa 1930
H: 27.5cm (43.5cm with the frame)
W: 38.5cm (54.5cm with the frame)
Ref: DB95
