An early 18th Century credence table with the most fabulous patination from nearly three hundred years of use.
The table consisting of an oval shaped walnut top with drop leaf raised on an oak base. With three baluster shaped legs the one in two parts to form the gate leg as shown in the pictures.
This table would have been used in the sanctuary of a Christian place of worship during the celebration of the Eucharist, the sharing of bread and wine, an act of remembrance, celebration and community.
The blacksmith forged hinges are particularly nice and complete what would have been an important piece of ecclesiastical furniture.
Whilst the gate leg appears identical, disproportionate wear to the bottom of this leg suggests it has probably been replaced at some earlier time.
A really characterful and useful piece of furniture in very good condition.
