A good colour early 19th Century elm open armchair possibly originating from North Wales.
The back rest is constructed of square styles united by two central rails below a top rail with 'hollow corners'. The decorative middle rail or 'cross splat' with central roundal between two serpentine shaped elements.
The serpentine shape is repeated and accentuated in the arms and arm supports, a particularly nice and decorative feature of this chair.
The flat two plank elm seat is raised on square legs all united by stretchers.
The chair has taken on a most wonderful patina from some two hundred year of use with contrasting black and golden honey colours making the chair particularly attractive.
A good piece of common vernacular regional furniture that would look equally splendid in a traditional or contemporary setting.

W: 62cm (47.5cm between arm supports)
