A fine Tunbridge ware box made by one of the leading makers Edmund Nye.
In excellent original condition, this superb example features a geometric tumbling cube pattern to the lid. The bottom half of the box features repeating floral sprays.
The inside of the box has an attractive patterned lining paper and there is a makers label to the underside.
Edmund Nye exhibited Tubridge ware at the Great Exhibition of 1851 along with two other manufacturers, Robert Russell and Henry Hollamby. This particular example is from the same period.
Edmund Nye operated at his factory on Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells until his business was acquired by Alderman Thomas Barton in 1863.
A very similar example can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London featuring a similar design and the same makers label.
