A very well painted Mid-Century oil on board painting of the river Severn at Worcester by John Neale.
The painting titled 'By the river Worcester' captures the scene looking South towards Worcester Cathedral.
In the fore ground the river and Severn way footpath running along it's Eastern bank with folk walking under overhanging trees towards 'The Old Palace' and Worcester Cathedral in the middle ground beyond. The river winding it's way into the distance with rowing boats moored up on both banks.
Stylistically the painting appears to draw influence from French impressionist paintings of the late 19th and early 20th Century's and makes excellent use of colour and light. The painting is signed by the artist bottom left.
A delightful painting that draws the viewer in and transports you into this gentle riverside scene.
