A good portrait of an Italian gentleman, most probably a lawyer.

The subject is wearing a black robe, white shirt and collar bands commonly worn by members of the legal profession.

The subject whilst facing the artist, is looking slightly to his left, his eyes are wide and his focusing appears purposeful as if he is listening intently. Whilst his expression is serious, there is a softness to his face. For example, his mouth is closed gently, so unlike a frown or scowl, his face is not distorted.

Whilst we do not know who the subject is, the portrait appears to reveal something of his character.

The painting in good condition in an attractive gold bevelled frame.
