A well-executed landscape painting on canvas attributed to James Peel (1811-1906).
The painting depicts a small group of sheep in the foreground watched over by a seated gentleman and lady with basket stood to his right-hand side. The adjacent fence line continues down the hillside away from the subjects towards a farmhouse bellow, smoke rising up from the chimney.
Fields in the mid-ground are catching the sunlight. Beyond these green fields, purple moorland rises up into the distance.
A gentle North country scene painted by a skilled hand. The bright colours would suggest the painting has probably been cleaned in more recent years.
Signed by the artist lower left.
