A beautifully detailed oil painting on canvas of a European market scene by the Dutch artist Carl Van Rooijen.

The painting depicts the edge of a busy market scene with elegantly dressed towns folk coming and going from the market place.

The use of light by the artist is excellent. The flower stall in the fore-ground and the adjacent towns folk are in dappled light coming through the dark canopy of trees above. Bright blue sky above the open town square beyond and the light green foliage of the trees in the mid-ground draws you further into the painting.
