This wonderfully atmospheric drawing of figures in a museum demonstrates the artists exceptionally good use of light. To the right-hand side of the picture, a group of gentlemen in deep shadow, the most prominent, gazing up at an oversized classical sculpture of a male nude. To the left-hand side of the drawing, a couple sat in the light, gazing at each other over a glass of wine.
Of Dutch parentage, David Hill grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, developing a passion for sketching and painting as a young child whilst travelling with his mother.
During his career as an artist, David lived and worked in New York between 1942-1947 before moving to Paris. He worked predominantly as a commercial artist providing illustrations for leading publications in both the U.S. and France. He also exhibited extensively in various Parisian galleries.
In excellent condition, mounted in a good quality early 20th Century hardwood frame.
