Antique pine blanket box with original faux-bois scumbling

A highly original and decorative pine blanket box painted in a faux-bois scumble to emulate light oak.

The process uses a combing technique to create a wood-grain pattern with the lighter sienna colour base coat showing through the darker red/brown/sienna topcoat. The colour pigments mixed with shellac to provide a durable finish. 

The blanket box has retained its original hinges, handles, lock and most of its original paint finish although, as one might imagine, there are time-worn scuffs and marks from well over one hundred years of use.

A very useful and versatile piece of furniture that could be used for various purposes around the home.
