A really attractive Sumac runner of muted colours. Predominantly pinkish reds on very light brown ground, with darker brown, black and light red details.
The design features three large central medallions within the central field and a profusion of bird and animal motifs all over. These are surrounded by the inner, main and guard boarders featuring repeating motifs of geometric design.
The animal and bird motifs relate to Noah's Ark which is understood to have run ground atop of mount Ararat in Eastern Anatolia near the boarder with Iran.
Sumac rugs such as this example, are made on a loom in a similar way to other kilims. However, a different weaving technic is used which results in the face of the Sumac been far smoother.
A finely woven rug that will look wonderful in both traditional or contemporary settings.
